The dramatic story about this World War II hero is one of patriotism, loyalty, dedication, selfless service and uncommon valor.  He enlisted for combat arms, accepted an officer’s commission into the U.S. Army Dental Corps and stepped up to take on his alternate wartime role of treating combat casualties.

Ben Salomon - Medal of Honor Recipient

In July 1944 on the Pacific island of Saipan Captain Salomon’s forward battalion aid station was attacked with overwhelming enemy force requiring Dr. Salomon to engage in hand to hand combat.  He directed evacuation of ambulatory wounded and remained behind to defend to his death the patients who could not be evacuated.

The rest of the story concerns how it took 58 years for his heroic acts to be recognized with the nations highest military honor, the Medal of Honor.
